We are lucky. As the executive director of a nonprofit that provides hands-on support for members of our community, I can see the difference that our agency makes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities every day. We are also lucky to know that our greater community provides the financial support that keeps our doors open so we can be there for the people who need our help. I have to find my good luck charm because next week’s luck is going to be overflowing!
On Tuesday, we will take part in Give BIG, the day of community giving created by The Seattle Foundation. If you make a gift to The Arc of King County that day, several very generous corporate sponsors will make your contribution go even further with matching funds. The more we receive from you, the greater our share of the “stretch pool” will be. That means we can reach out to more families whose children were recently diagnosed, and we can care for more adults who are able to live in the community of their choice because of our help.
Then, on Thursday, more than 300 people will gather at the Washington State Convention Center to celebrate the 7th Living our Legacy Awards Luncheon. This annual gathering is a friend-raiser and a fundraiser bringing together individuals with disabilities and the wonderful community that cares about them. I look forward to this event because it means so much when I see all members of our community coming together to show appreciation for each other. If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, I encourage you to please do it today. (Click Here!) It would be wonderful to share the day with you!
Community support is critical to our ability to fulfill our mission. Thank you in advance for taking part in our luckiest, and most generous, week of the year.
